In 1961 a group of researchers from Princeton University were working at Friday Harbor near Seattle, Washington. They noticed that a constant stream of glowing jellyfish floated by their lab each day and decided to study this specific species of jellyfish called Aequorea victoria to determine what caused them to glow.
